Bhopal, May 16: Hours after making a controversial comment stating that Nathuram Godse a 'patriot', Bharatiya Janata Party's Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Singh Thakur finally apologised on Thursday. Though she reiterated that it was her personal comment and alleged media of twisting her words.

Speaking on the issue, Thakur said, "It was my personal opinion remark. My intention was not to hurt anyone's sentiments. If I've hurt anyone I do apologise. What Gandhi Ji has done for the country cannot be forgotten. Earlier, Congress general secretary lambasted the BJp leader for her comments and asked 'If Godse was a Deshbhakt, then who was Mahatma Gandhi?' She took to Twitter and wrote, "Bapu's murderer a Patriot? Hey Ram", adding, "Distancing yourself from your candidate is not enough. Nationalistic luminaries of the BJP, have the guts to spell out your stand."

Taking note of Thakur's comments, even Election Commission sought a factual report from Chief Electoral Officer, Madhya Pradesh by tomorrow in the matter of Pragya Singh Thakur's statement on 'Nathuram Godse'.
