Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has said he will not seek votes in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections if he fails to secure the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations for teachers in Bihar. Kishor made the statement while campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidates in the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council elections. He said the party would take up teachers’ demands with the state government and work to ensure that they receive the benefits of the seventh pay scale before the next Lok Sabha election.

The issue of the seventh pay scale has emerged as a key part of Jan Suraaj’s campaign for the teachers’ constituencies. Kishor had earlier said the party would work with teachers to pursue three major demands: implementation of the seventh pay scale, bringing teachers from unaided institutions into the regular teachers’ category, and setting clear norms for assigning teachers non-academic duties. On September 30, while attending the nomination of Jan Suraaj candidates for the Tirhut graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies, Kishor said teachers would get the benefit of the Seventh Pay Commission before the next Lok Sabha election if his party’s candidates were elected.

The latest remarks come as campaigning intensifies for the Bihar Legislative Council elections. Jan Suraaj has fielded candidates in several teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies and has made education, employment and teachers’ demands prominent issues in its campaign. Kishor has also announced an employment-related promise for graduates, saying Jan Suraaj would work to provide jobs to 10,000 educated unemployed youths in each graduates’ constituency if its candidates are elected.

The statements are part of Jan Suraaj’s broader campaign to position the upcoming council elections around specific demands of teachers and graduates, rather than the formation or removal of a state government.
