New Delhi, January 25: Union Cabinet Minister in Ministry of Jal Shakti Gajendra S Shekhawat on Saturday attacked Rajasthan Chief Minister Askok Gehlot government for passing anti Citizenship Amendment Act resolution in the Assembly. Shekhawat called this act as "Murdering the Democracy" and referred this to a conspiracy to divide the country.

Expressing his opinion on Rajasthan Cabinet's resolution, Shekhawat said, as the news agency ANI quoted, "It amounts to murdering the democracy. Assemblies are going beyond limited autonomy granted by Constitution by passing these resolutions.This is a conspiracy to divide the country and isn't acceptable." Earlier on Saturday, Rajasthan assembly on Saturday passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and became the third state after Kerala and Punjab to pass an assembly resolution seeking repeal of CAA. Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot had said that the Centre should listen to people protesting against the law and asserted that democracy will weaken if there is no dialogue.

It is to be known that Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in Kerala and Amarinder Singh-led government in Punjab have passed were teh first states to pass resolution seeking repeal of CAA. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath are too discussing to pass resolution seeking repeal of CAA in their respective state assemblies.
