Mumbai, October 13: Facing flak from all corners for his comment on Saturday in which he claimed that there is no economic slowdown as recent films did well at the box office, Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday withdrew his comment. The Union Minister even issued a press statement and clarified his stance on the controversial comment. Taking back his comment completely, he wrote, "My comments made yesterday in Mumbai about 3 films making Rs 120 Cr in a single day - the highest ever, was a factually correct statement. I had stated that as I was in Mumbai - the film capital of India. We are very proud of our film industry which provides employment to lakhs of people and contributes significantly by way of taxes. I had also explained in detail about various measures the Govt has taken as pro-people may have to strengthen our economy. Govt of PM Narendra Modi always cares for the sensitivity of common people."

Here's the press statement by RS Prasad, withdrawing his comment:

However, Prasad was miffed was seen miffed with the way media took one comment and twisted it. He wrote, "Entire video of my media interaction is available on my social media. Yet I regret to note that one part of my statement has been completely twisted out of context. Being a sensitive person I withdraw this comment."

On Saturday night, the Union Minister had shared the full video of the press conference and an issued a clarification for his comments. He wrote, "Have already shared the full video of my Press Conference in Mumbai today. Earlier in the same evening, Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that the economy of India is sound, by citing the big business made by movies in a single day -- Rs 120 crore -- to sustain his claims and tried to trash the reports of economic crisis. He addressed a  press conference in Mumbai and said, "Film trade analyst Komal Nahta told that the day saw earning of over Rs 120 crores, a record by 3 movies. The economy of the country is sound, that is why there is a return of Rs 120 cr in a day."
