Hyderabad, December 22: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) second-in-command Akbaruddin Owaisi, who heads the party in Telangana, has been hospitalised after he complained of severe abdominal pain. A special team of doctors are monitoring his condition at the Owaisi Hospital, where he was rushed to in the wee hours of Friday.
On learning of his brother's ill-health, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi returned from Delhi to meet the team of doctors treating him. Akbaruddin, 48, was recently re-elected as the AIMIM floor leader in Telangana assembly, after the party succeeded in repeating its electoral dominance in Hyderabad district -- winning 7 of the 8 seats it contested.
Akbaruddin, a five-time MLA, won from the Chandrayangutta Assembly seat in the recently-concluded assembly polls in Telangana.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) emerged victorious in the December 7 elections, bagging 88 seats in the 119-member Assembly. Second in the race was Congress which achieved 19 seats, followed by the AIMIM, which won seven seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only one seat.
