Chittari Haribabu, who was accused in the March murder of his pregnant wife and YouTuber Gandham Vaishnavi in Telangana’s Jagtial district, was hacked to death by unidentified attackers in Nizamabad on Thursday. Haribabu was reportedly out on bail in the case when the attack took place. Haribabu was attacked near Rajarajendra (RR) Centre in Nizamabad. According to preliminary reports, an assailant approached him after arriving in a car and attacked him with a sharp weapon before fleeing. Police reached the spot and shifted his body to the Government General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the killing. Reports said multiple unidentified men may have been involved, though the exact number of attackers was still being investigated. Haribabu had been arrested in March in connection with the death of his wife, Vaishnavi, a young YouTuber from Madhapur village in the Korutla area of Jagtial district. Police had alleged that she was killed following dowry-related harassment. Telangana Shocker: Man Sets Ablaze Wife, Father-in-Law; Probe Underway
Vaishnavi was reportedly four months pregnant when she died on March 17. According to the police account reported at the time, Haribabu allegedly attacked her at their home and fled after the incident. He was subsequently arrested. Police had also alleged that Haribabu had demanded additional dowry from Vaishnavi's family. The family had reportedly already given ₹5 lakh, while police said another ₹5 lakh was allegedly demanded. These were allegations in the murder investigation and formed part of the case against Haribabu.
Haribabu's killing has prompted investigators to examine whether it was connected to the earlier murder of Vaishnavi. However, police had not publicly established a motive for Thursday's attack at the time of the latest reports. The investigation is continuing, with police examining CCTV footage and other evidence to trace the attackers and determine whether the two cases are connected.
