Vellore, August 5: Polling began on Monday, August 5, in Tamil Nadu's Vellore Lok Sabha constituency after a far-reaching election campaigning by ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK). The Vellore seat comprises six Assembly segments- Vellore, Kilvaithinankuppam, Anaikattu, Vaniyambadi, Gudiyattam, and Ambur.

For Vellore parliamentary elections, AIADMK has fielded AC Shanmugam, DMK has fielded Kathir Anand and filmmaker Seeman’s NTK has given a ticket to Deepa Lakshmi and other 25 candidates are also in the battle. Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhaga (AMMK) have not fielded candidates. Vellore Lok Sabha Election 2019 in Tamil Nadu on August 5.

Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo said that all preliminary work has been completed to ensure safe and secure polls. “In Vellore LS seat, 1,553 booths are going for polls on Monday. About 7,500 booth level EC officers will conduct the elections. 3,752 voting machines will be used for polling votes,” he said.

The Lok Sabha polls in Vellore were cancelled after a massive cash hauls were recovered from the parliamentary constituency. Earlier, the polls were scheduled to take place in the second phase of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections on April 18.
