Kolkata, May 17: West Bengal Panchayat Election Results 2018 will be declared in a short while. The Election Commission of India will start with the counting of votes from 7 am. On May 12, polls for the West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018 took place, and there were widespread violence reported during the elections.According to reports, atleast 25 people were reported to be dead, and 43 people injured. As a result of this violence, re-polling took place in 568 booths across West Bengal.

According to a data sourced from West Bengal State Election Commission, in 2013, Left Front  got two seats in Zilla Parishad, 20 in Panchayat Samiti and 708 in Gram Panchayat. Congress won 2 seats in Zilla Parishad, 66 in Panchayat Samiti and 233 in Gram Panchayats. TMC won 13 seats in Zilla Parishad, 214 in Panchayat Samiti and 1783 in Gram Panchayats.

Talking about the widespread violence that happened recently, PM Narendra Modi attacked Trinamool Congress government and said, "democracy was "murdered" for narrow political interests. Opposition parties also accused TMC of spreading terror and destroying democracy. However, TMC denied these allegations as "baseless". The Ministry of Home Affairs has also asked for a report from the state government, looking at the violence that erupted in the state during the 2018 Panchayat Elections.

According to a PTI report, the repolling was ordered in 10 booths in Hooghly, 28 booths in West Midnapore, 52 booths in Coochbehar, 63 booths in Murshidabad, 60 booths in Nadia, 59 booths in North 24 Parganas, 55 booths in Malda, 73 booths in Uttar Dinajpur and 26 in South 24 Pargans among others.
