New Delhi, March 19: Both YSR Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are geared up for pushing the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government in Lok Sabha on Monday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy-led Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSR Congress Party) will push their no-confidence motion notices as they continue their agitations for  a special-category status to Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, the Parliament secretariat received 3 notices on a no-confidence motion, 2 from TDP &1 from YSRCP. If House in order and quorum established, LS Speaker likely to bring No Confidence motion after Question Hour. It must be noted that 50 members are needed to establish Quorum.

Earlier today, the TDP MPs protested in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament over special category status to Andhra Pradesh. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury also joined the protest.

As per reports, the current strength of Lok Sabha is 539 (excluding the Speaker) and the ruling BJP has 275 members (including the Speaker and two nominated members). This number is more than the majority mark of 271.

It must be noted that the government has the support of more than 300 members that include NDA partners like SAD, LJP, RLSP and JDU in Lok Sabha and faces no threat from the no-confidence motion. “We are ready to face no-confidence motion as we have support in the House. We are confident”, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar was quoted by ANI.  The decision comes after pressing for a discussion on the Special Category Status (SCS) in Parliament when the Budget session resumes, its chief whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy said on Wednesday.

‘TDP felt that it was pointless to continue in NDA’

On March 16, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu wrote to BJP president Amit Shah, saying they felt it pointless to continue in NDA as the union government failed to discharge its constitutional responsibilities in implementing ‘Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act,2014’ in letter and spirit.

As per reports by PTI, Naidu, in the four-page letter did not mention about the ‘collusion’ between BJP and other parties (YSR Congress and Jana Sena) that he alleged in the morning during a teleconference with party politburo members and MPs. “Today, a feeling is gaining ground in our state that the BJP is not sensitive to the aspirations of our people.

Y. V. Subba Reddy of the YSRCP writes to Lok Sabha Secretariat

As per reports by PTI, Y.V. Subba Reddy of the YSRCP has written to the Lok Sabha secretariat to put his notice for the motion in the revised list of business. The TDP has also moved a notice for a no-confidence motion.

With the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the AIADMK, which often cooperated with the government on legislative business, protesting over a host of issues, it remains uncertain if order is restored. “We expect the Speaker to facilitate a discussion on the issue before March 20,” he said.

The decision to pass the no-confidence motion against the government comes after the TDP quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and moved a no-confidence motion on Friday, a day after the YSR Congress Party had moved a no-confidence motion against the Modi government. Their notices were not taken up last week because of the din in the House.
