West Bengal, May 21: Widespread violence had marred the West Bengal Panchayat polls this year. More than 20 people died, and several were injured during the polling. According to a recent ANI tweet, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed an FIR against Russell Aziz, son of CPI-M MP Mohammad Selim, for circulating fake news on social media about the death of a Presiding officer inside a polling station.

The intention was to create panic on the day of West Bengal Panchayat Elections. Reportedly, Aziz had mentioned on his Facebook page that in North Dinajpur, a presiding officer and a polling officer was killed by some miscreants, allegedly close to Trinamool Congress. Aziz later withdrew the post, but by then, it was widely shared on social media.

On the day of the election, a mutilated body of the Presiding Officer Rajkumar Roy, who was stationed at an election booth in Raiganj was widely circulated on social media. Top politicians from BJP shared the image, where the body was shown butchered and was beyond any recognition.

According to reports, Roy had resisted to booth capturing on the day he died, first he went missing and then on the following day, his body was found lying on the railway tracks. The deceased's wife had demanded a full-fledged investigation into the cold-blooded murder.
