The National Moon Sighting Committee announced on Thursday evening that Eid Ul Fitr 2026 will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Saturday, March 21. The decision follows the committee's confirmation that the Shawwal crescent moon of 1447 Hijri was not sighted in the country’s sky on Thursday. As a result, the holy month of Ramadan will complete a full 30-day cycle on Friday. Religious Affairs Minister and committee president, Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad), formalized the announcement after a high-level meeting held at the Islamic Foundation's office within the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Eid 2026 Moon Sighting Final Update: India To Celebrate Eid Ul Fitr on March 21 as Shawwal Chand Not Sighted.

Logistics and Security Arrangements

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is overseeing the arrangements at the National Eidgah. DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam noted that the venue can accommodate approximately 35,000 devotees, with dedicated separate spaces and entrances for women and VVIPs.

To ensure public safety, a multi-layered security blanket will be in place:

  • Security Personnel: Members of the Police, RAB, and the Special Security Force (SSF) will be deployed throughout the area.
  • Facilities: New water taps have been installed for ablution (wudu), and the perimeter has been cordoned off for crowd control.
  • Prohibited Items: For security reasons, devotees are requested not to bring bags. Only prayer mats, mobile phones, and umbrellas are permitted.

Multiple Eid Prayer Times at Baitul Mukarram

For those unable to attend the National Eidgah, the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will host five sequential congregations to accommodate the large influx of worshippers:
