New Delhi, June 04: Hilal Committees of major cities of India will convene today for making an official announcement regarding the Eid moon sighting. If the new moon is sighted today, then the Eid or Eid al Fitr will be celebrated in India on June 5. However, if the apex Islamic bodies fail to sight the moon, then the holy month of fasting - Ramadan will be extended for a day. Eid Moon Sighting 2019 in Kerala: Crescent Not Sighted, Eid al-Fitr to be Celebrated on Wednesday.

The moon sighting marks the end of the Ramadan. The crescent will be visible for a few minutes only, if the Hilal Committees fail to sight the moon, then the Eid will be celebrated on June 6. The festival is believed to be celebrated after Prophet Mohammed migrated from Mecca to Medina. As part of Eid celebrations, Muslims across the world offer prayers at mosques. Meanwhile, the Shawwal crescent was sighted in most of the Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait and other parts of the Middle East on Monday. However, the moon in Jordan, Palestine, Iran, parts of Syria and Yemen will be sighted today.
