New Delhi, March 8: With an aim to celebrate “nari shakti” on International Women’s Day today, several airlines in India have announced a slew of initiatives to mark the special day. Airlines including Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir have announced a slew of initiatives from operating flights with all-women crew to distributing roses and goodies. Reports inform that the female cabin crew in few airlines also allowed female cabin crew the option of not wearing make-up. To commemorate the special day, Air India is all set to fly 12 all-women crew flights on its medium- and long-haul international routes. Apart from this, over 40 domestic short-haul flights will be taken off by women crew to celebrate the special day on March 8, the airline said in a statement. "Our women colleagues soaring high to attain new heights- flying to every possible destination from Dharmshala to USA on International women's day", the airline said on Twitter.

Air India’s chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani was quoted in a HT report congratulating the airlines' women crew for operating so many flights on various international and domestic routes fuelled by their indomitable nari shakti. On Friday, Air India will be deploying its B787 Dreamliners and B777s on 12 international routes.

Meanwhile, low-cost carrier SpiceJet said it will operate 22 flights with all-women crew. Women flying alone will be offered priority check-in and boarding, plus a rose. All women fliers will be offered a complementary hot beverage and cookies.

Another budget-carrier airline Vistara is winning hearts on the internet after it announced that the airline will provide sanitary pads for their women flyers to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019 on March 8. The initiative is called #PadsOnBoard.Vistara airlines will provide sanitary pads to women flyers onboard on request, and this will make it easier for women flyers to deal with unexpected menstruation cycles on board. "This initiative makes Vistara the first Indian airline to offer sanitary pads on flights within India", the airline said.
