Officials have prioritised visitor experience, scaling up facilities that received positive feedback during previous national events, such as dedicated cloakrooms and integrated volunteer support systems. Who Are the 5,000 'Special Guests' Invited to India's 80th Independence Day?
Transit and Accessibility Updates
To manage the influx of attendees, the Delhi Metro will begin operations earlier than usual on August 15. The system will be operational starting at 4:00 AM, with services provided free of cost to all official invitees. Participants can access these complimentary rides by using the Metro QR codes embedded in their e-invitations. For those driving to the venue, parking facilities have been designated at the Parade Ground for visitors possessing valid parking labels. To assist with navigation, real-time traffic restrictions will be updated throughout the day on both Google Maps and Mappls.
Additionally, to improve pedestrian flow between the upper and lower Subhash Marg, authorities have installed "robust ramps and stairs" to ensure safer and more efficient movement for crowds entering the event area.
On-Ground Support and Assistance
A dedicated team of 200 volunteers - comprising 100 members from the MY Bharat initiative and 100 from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) - will be stationed along the route to the Red Fort. These volunteers will work alongside police personnel to guide visitors to their respective enclosures. For individuals requiring mobility support, the NCC has arranged 20 wheelchairs, which will be available at metro stations and designated parking areas. NCC cadets will be on-site to assist those needing this service. Independence Day 2026: Vande Mataram to Be Sung From Red Fort Ramparts for First Time.
Convenience Amenities
Recognising the positive reception during past Republic Day and Independence Day events, the administration has expanded luggage storage capabilities. Twenty-five cloakrooms have been set up across six strategic locations to allow visitors to securely store personal belongings. Furthermore, acknowledging the potential for monsoon-related weather fluctuations, organisers have made provisions for attendee comfort:
- Rain Ponchos: Protective gear will be provided to all invitees seated in the Madhav Das Park and August 15 Park enclosures, as well as to dignitaries stationed at the ramparts, ensuring the ceremony remains uninterrupted regardless of weather conditions.
These coordinated efforts reflect a broader administrative push to modernise crowd management and accessibility at India’s premier national ceremonial site.
