Orlando, July 8: Westgate Resorts, a US-based timeshare resort company, announced laying off 357 workers in its latest layoffs. The Westgate Resorts layoffs hint that the travelling and tourism industry is also affected by the global workforce reduction wave. The company announced it would let go of these employees to streamline its operations.

Fox 35 Orlando reported that the Westgate Resorts filed the layoff notice on the Florida Commerce Website on June 28, 2024. According to the notice, the report said the Westgate Resorts layoffs would affect 357 workers, effective on August 30, 2024. Despite announcing the job cuts, the Westgate Resorts said that the affected employees could apply for different positions within the company. OpenText Layoffs: Canada-Based IT Company To Lay Off Around 1,200 Employees To Reduce Expenses, Reinvest on New Roles To Support Its Growth.

Westgate Resorts spokesperson stated that the company had recently merged many marketing and operational support teams. This action was taken so that the company could streamline operations and provide a better experience for the owners and guests.

The spokesperson reportedly further said that the team members affected by the Westgate Resorts layoffs would be given an opportunity to apply for open and available positions throughout the company. The company's move to let go of the employees seemingly represents reducing roles which might be redundant.

According to another report by Business Journal, the job cuts will affect the workers in Orlando, Florida. The travel and tourism industry was greatly affected during the COVID-19 pandemic, and several leading companies began cutting jobs as the business was completely shut down due to lockdowns.

In 2024, layoffs affected many sectors, including technology, healthcare, media and automobile, Fintech, ed-tech, and digital advertising agencies. They also cut hundreds of their workforce for various reasons, such as a slowdown in the global economy, cost cuts, etc. UKG Layoffs: US-Based Software Firm Announces Massive Layoff Round, Cuts Over 2,200 Jobs as Part of Organisational Changes To Focus on Growth Areas.
