In 2021, Pan Nalin's Gujarati Film had competed with Sherni, Sardar Udham, Toofan, Nayattu, Mandela et al to be India's Official entry for Oscars 2022 but lost to Koozhangal. Jury members had called it 'manipulative' and 'facile' then.
