Veteran Bengali film and television actress Basanti Chatterjee passed away of cancer on August 12 in Kolkata. She was 88. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Basanti Chatterjee with a social media post in Bengali, calling her death an "irreparable loss" to the world of arts and entertainment.
