The Union Cabinet has approved renaming Kerala to "Keralam" to align with its native Malayalam name. The term originates from "Kera" (coconut) and "Alam" (land). The move seeks to remove anglicised colonial influence and unify the state's name across all official languages. A constitutional amendment bill will now head to Parliament.
