Mangilal, the "crorepati" beggar of Indore, was a familiar figure in the landmark jewellery hub, where he moved through the streets on a wheeled wooden cart, pushing himself with hands placed inside a pair of shoes. Officials estimate that Mangilal collected between INR 500 and INR 1,000 daily from voluntary contributions. He told officials that he has three houses, one car and three auto-rickshaws.
