The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to equip its MiG-29 fighters with ASRAAM missiles, replacing ageing R-73 systems. ASRAAM, a fourth-generation heat-seeking missile with 25+ km range, fire-and-forget capability, and Mach 3+ speed, will enhance short-range aerial combat. Local assembly in Hyderabad is planned, boosting domestic defence production and IAF readiness.
