Devotees gather at sacred riverbanks, seashores, or temple tanks like those at Rameswaram, Thiruvannamalai, and Kumbakonam to conduct Aadi Amavasai ceremonies. Special pujas are performed, sesame seeds and holy water are offered, and food is distributed to Brahmins and the needy.
