Marian McQuade started a campaign in hope to establish a national day that would honour grandparents. She raised awareness about senior citizens throughout 1970s. Later in 1978, President Jimmy Carter declared first Sunday after Labor Day as the National Grandparents Day. This is one day that has an official flower and song.
