The European Union recently banned a key ingredient used in gel nail polish called trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO). The chemical is widely used in gel nail polishes to help them dry faster and last longer. The ban came into effect September 1 after several studies revealed that the ingredient used in gel nail polish can cause fertility issues and adversely affect reproductive health.
