All eight old teams are allowed to retain up to four players – maximum two foreigners – from their current roster ahead of IPL 2022, following which all the released players will be up for auction. The two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – will have the opportunity to retain up to three players – two Indian and one overseas – that go into the auction pool.
