A 56-year-old woman from Westchester County died after falling into an uncovered utility manhole near Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan late Monday night. Police said the woman stepped out of her parked SUV before plunging nearly 10 feet into the open hole near the Cartier and Nike stores. Con Edison said it is investigating how the manhole was left uncovered.
