The magnitude of the quake was measured as 6.8 on the richter scale, as per the United States Geological Survey (USGS). According to the USGS, the tremors were centered 151 km (94 miles) from Banten province, off the island’s southwest coast, and struck at a depth of 42.8km (26.5 miles) near Sumatra.
