A Chinese court has sentenced former Shaolin Temple abbot Shi Yongxin to 24 years in prison and fined him 3.5 million yuan after finding him guilty of embezzlement, misappropriation of funds and bribery. Authorities said Shi illegally obtained hundreds of millions of yuan over two decades. The once-prominent Buddhist leader had been under investigation since 2024.
