New Delhi, September 9: Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini on Monday fell a prey to a fake Twitter account that shared updates of India's second lunar mission — Chandrayaan 2 and was trolled on social media. The account is used by a user with the handle name @shivraj_office that claims to share ISRO Official updates. The former actress and BJP MP tweeted an update of the moon mission, which stated that Vikram Lander had landed on the southern pole of the moon. Although, she didn't realise that the account was a fake one. ISRO on Sunday had announced that it has traced the Vikram lander and is trying to re-establish communication with it. On Saturday, India had lost contact with Vikram during its decent, when the soft landing was scheduled.

The incident comes a day after several fake handles of ISRO Chief K Sivan emerged on Twitter. The account, which was later suspended, garnered over 40 thousand followers in no time. The fake account fetched likes and retweets on the micro-blogging site soon after the news broke out that Vikram lander lost connection with ISRO at just 2.1 km above the moon surface. The fake handles that emerged on Twitter were with the name @kailasavadivo @kailasavadivos @K_Sivan_ISRO and related ones.

Apart from fake Twitter accounts, several images of the Lander’s ‘soft’ touchdown had gone viral on social media. There were images being circulated showing a perfectly positioned Vikram ready to roll out the Rover. On Saturday, India lost communication with Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander while it was descending on moon's South Pole. The 2,379-kg Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, however, continues to fly around the Moon.
