WhatsApp experienced a sudden global service disruption on Monday, leaving thousands of users unable to share photos, videos, GIFs, and stickers. While text messaging remained mostly functional, multimedia files routinely failed to upload or remained stuck indefinitely across multiple international regions.
Global Outage Affects Media Sharing on WhatsApp
The technical glitch surfaced early in the morning, with outage monitoring platforms registering a sudden surge in complaints. As per a report by The Economic Times, users across India, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia encountered persistent loading errors and failed media transfers. Initial telemetry data indicated that roughly 41 per cent of complaints involved core messaging functions, while 40 per cent pointed directly to application stability issues.

International Extent and User Troubleshooting
Affected individuals attempted standard troubleshooting procedures, including restarting mobile devices, switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data networks, and reinstalling the application, though these steps failed to resolve the upload failures. As per a report by Telangana Today, the geographic distribution of grievances confirmed that the disruption was not tied to localized network infrastructure. Parent company Meta had not released an official statement regarding the root cause of the technical malfunction at the time of reporting.
WhatsApp has not officially issued any statement regarding the outage on any social media platform yet. As per Downdetector website, more than 30 users reported facing problems on WhatsApp.
