Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni was conferred with the country's third highest civilian award, Padhma Bhushan on Monday. Dhoni who was dressed in his official uniform of the Paramilitary Forces for the ceremony, walked like an army personnel when his name was called to receive the award.

The former Indian cricket team captain was accompanied by wife Sakshi who proudly cheered as the award was handed over to him. The 37-year-old is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honour. Multiple world-champion cueist Pankaj Advani also received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

Incidentally, India won the ICC Cricket World Cup in Mumbai on the same day (April 2) seven years ago. Dhoni is regarded as the driving force behind India's win in 2007 T20I World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni who is considered one of the most successful Indian captains bid adieu to Test cricket in 2014 and later stepped down from limited-overs captaincy in January 2017. Currently, Virat Kohli heads the Indian cricket in all formats.

Dhoni has been the recipient of awards including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007 and the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour in 2009, the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 (the first player to win the award twice). The Indian Territorial Army had also conferred him with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Dhoni in 2011. Dhoni will be soon join team CSK for the upcoming edition of IPL 2018.
