Following the alert, Janaki Devi carefully handled the king cobra and removed it from the house without incident. The snake was later released into a nearby forest, preventing what could have become a dangerous encounter between people and wildlife.
Why Snake Sightings Increase During Monsoon
Forest Ranger Satyam Kumar said such incidents become more common during the monsoon season and periods of changing weather, when snakes leave their natural habitats in search of dry and safe shelter.
He noted that villages located close to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve are particularly prone to snake encounters because of their proximity to forested areas.
The ranger urged residents not to panic or attempt to catch snakes themselves. Instead, they should immediately contact the forest department or trained rescue personnel, as handling venomous reptiles without proper expertise can be extremely dangerous.
About the King Cobra
The king cobra is the world's longest venomous snake and is known for its powerful neurotoxic venom, which affects the nervous system.
Although king cobras generally avoid human contact, experts advise seeking immediate medical attention in the event of a bite, as prompt treatment is essential.
Janaki Devi's latest rescue has once again highlighted the important role trained wildlife rescuers play in ensuring the safety of both people and animals, particularly in regions where human settlements border forest habitats.
