This prohibition, effective from Friday, May 24, is set to last for a period of one year. The department cited public health concerns as the rationale behind the ban, invoking powers conferred by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and relevant regulations. The notification expressly prohibits the sale of Gutka and Pan masala in any form, be it sachets, pouches, or containers, across the entire state of Telangana.
