A century-old, three-storey building collapsed in Bandeya Mohalla near Chawal Bazaar in Old City area of Ludhiana on Tuesday afternoon, injuring a woman and her 2-year-old daughter. CCTV footage captured the chilling moment as the woman, identified as 27-year-old Khushi, tried to shield her child from the falling debris. She suffered head and arm injuries but managed to save her daughter. The collapse, which occurred around 1:40 p.m., left nearby residents in shock, as several of their homes had also developed cracks. Three people inside the building were rescued by fire brigade personnel, while three others standing nearby escaped in time. Residents had noticed the building deteriorating, with bricks falling out days before the collapse.
