Former IAS officer Divya Mittal on Thursday, October 15, announced the launch of her political party, Jan Neeti Bharat, and said it would contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The announcement marks her formal entry into electoral politics after a 13-year career in the civil services. In a video message shared on social media, including X, Mittal said her party would seek to put citizens at the centre of government decisions and ensure that elected representatives remain accountable throughout their tenure, rather than focusing on public concerns only during elections. Jan Neeti Bharat Party: Divya Mittal Outlines Three Key Promises
Announcing the party's formation, Mittal said its approach would be guided by the principle of “Jan se niti, Niti se Bharat”, which translates to policies shaped by people to build the country. Her first promise focuses on involving citizens in policymaking. According to Mittal, people directly affected by government decisions should have a greater say in shaping policies concerning agriculture, education, local infrastructure and other public services.
The second promise centres on making decisions according to people's needs rather than their caste, religion or social status. Mittal said the party would seek a more equitable approach to governance, with public requirements taking priority in decision-making. Her third promise concerns transparency and accountability. Under the principle, “Janata ko hisaab; Hisaab se sudhaar”, the public would be able to question the government's work and seek improvements in the delivery of services. Mittal said the party intended to develop a model in which citizens could participate more directly in decisions affecting their communities.
Divya Mittal's Political Entry After Resigning From IAS
Mittal's announcement follows her decision to enter politics independently rather than join an established political party. In a video message in September, she had said she wanted to work directly with people and address issues she encountered during her administrative career. Describing Uttar Pradesh as her “karmabhoomi”, Mittal had expressed her intention to begin her political journey in the state. She had also invited people who supported her approach to connect with her and participate in the initiative. Mittal announced her resignation from the Indian Administrative Service on August 30. The Uttar Pradesh government accepted it in September, ending her 13-year career in the civil services. The launch of Jan Neeti Bharat clarifies her plans to contest elections under her own political banner. However, she has not announced a specific constituency from which she intends to contest the 2027 Assembly polls.
Who Is Divya Mittal? Former IAS Officer's Career
A 2013-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Mittal is originally from Rewari in Haryana. She studied at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore before working in London and subsequently preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. She cleared the examination in her second attempt, securing the 68th rank in 2013.
During her administrative career, Mittal served as district magistrate in Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria. She later held senior positions in the Uttar Pradesh government, including Special Secretary in the Revenue Department. She gained public recognition during her tenure in Mirzapur, where her administration worked to provide piped drinking water to Lahuria Dah, a remote village whose residents had relied on water tankers for years.
Her entry into politics comes as Uttar Pradesh prepares for its next Assembly elections in 2027. With Jan Neeti Bharat, Mittal has positioned people-centric policymaking and public accountability as the party's central priorities. Its electoral prospects and the constituencies it will contest remain to be seen.
