Manipur: Amid Unrest, State Government Declares Entire State ‘Disturbed Area’ for 6 Months Under AFSPA
The government believes that "violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups warrant the use of the Armed Forces in aid of civil administration throughout the entire state of Manipur".
In light of the current law and order scenario, the Manipur administration designated the whole state a "disturbed area" on Wednesday. According to the state government's announcement, the whole state has been declared a "disturbed area" under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), with the exception of 19 particular police station locations. The government believes that "violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups warrant the use of the Armed Forces in aid of civil administration throughout the entire state of Manipur," according to the announcement.
