A man in Lakhimpur Kheri Lok Sabha in Uttar Pradesh alleged serious EVM tampering at his booth. He claimed that though he pressed on Samajwadi Party’s (SP) symbol on electronic voting machine (EVM), the VVPAT dispensed slip of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) lotus symbol. The Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) linked to the EVM allegedly dispensed only the BJP's symbol irrespective of any button pressed, the man claimed. VVPAT is a machine which dispenses a slip with the symbol of the party for which a person has voted for. The slip drops in a box and the voter cannot take it home. Election is underway on 96 seats in 10 states and Union Territories on Monday. India General Elections 2024: Polling Begins for Phase Four of Lok Sabha Polls in Uttar Pradesh for 13 Seats.
