A significant explosion occurred at a firecracker manufacturing factory located at Narayanapuram Pudur, near Sivakasi in the Virudhunagar district. The blast was so powerful that it was heard from a distance of around 1 km. Virudhunagar district, a hotspot for firecracker manufacture, has witnessed many similar incidents over the years. Earlier this year, in February, 10 people died in Vembakkottai block’s Ramuthevanpatti when employees of a firecracker factory were mixing chemicals for fancy crackers.
