Spain’s racewalker Laura Garcia-Caro had a similar feeling recently who was about to win a bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships 2024 in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico and started celebrating before crossing the finish line. That slowed her speed and Ukraine's Lyudmyla Olyanovska took the opportunity to overtake her to finish the race as the third fastest athlete. Laura Garcia-Caro lost the medal due to her premature celebrations with just five meters to go, making the moment viral on social media.
