A senior officer of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), identified by local media as Colonel Ivan Voronych, was shot dead on Thursday afternoon in a residential area of Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district. The assailant fired five shots at the officer in a parking lot before fleeing on foot. Security footage, verified by Reuters, shows the brazen attack in broad daylight. While the SBU confirmed the death of one of its officers, it has not officially named the victim. No suspects or motives have been identified yet. The SBU, Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency, is investigating the killing alongside the National Police. Since Russia’s invasion in 2022, the SBU has been actively engaged in covert operations, including drone strikes and targeted assassinations within Russia. Russia-Ukraine War: Russian Army Hits Kyiv With More Missiles, Drones Causing Fires; at Least 10 Injured.
