As the bear bit Ryan's arm and forehead, Owen grabbed his rifle and fatally shot the bear, ending the attack. "Owen was a hero. He shot that bear and killed it on top of me," Ryan said. Ryan was taken to the hospital, where he received 23 stitches for injuries to his face, arm, and leg. He described the ordeal as "a wild ride."
