West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle has said that he wants to "uplift the West Indies (cricket team) to its glory days" and expressed his desire to help the West Indies team reach the pinnacle of world cricket once again. The West Indies team, under the leadership of Clive Lloyd, won the first two Cricket World Cups in 1975 and 1979. However, after that, the West Indies reached the finals of the World Cup only once in 1983 and failed to lift the World Cup in any of the editions.
