The West Indies cricket team, which has not really impressed with their performances in the (50 Overs) ICC Cricket World Cups since 1987, are seriously looking to change those stats in this edition of the World Cup. Though the West Indies team is a more accomplished T20 international side, the Caribbean squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 looks like an outfit full of match winners and game changers. The Jason Holder led side comprises of names like Andre Russell, Chris Gayle and youngsters like Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Sheldon Cottrell besides others. And though the team is currently ranked number 8 in the world, fans know that they are capable of performing much better in the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2019. Cricket World Cup History: Winners, Host Nations, Participating Teams and Timeline of All the CWC From 1975 to 2015.

The West Indies squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 looks a more balanced and dangerous side than the ones that played in previous editions. The 1975 and 1979 Cricket World Cup winners, who dominated the game in the 70's till the mid 80's, are looking to regain the lost days of glory. And many believe that if any West Indies side can do that, this is the team to do that job. Other than Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and others, the West Indies have Shannon Gabriel, Darren Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite in their ranks. Schedule of Team West Indies at ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: List of WI’s Matches, Time Table, Date, Venue and Squad Details.

Jason Holder has held the West Indian team together when the going has not been easy. Holder has proved by example that he is a natural leader of men. And the responsibility for carrying forward this West Indies side lies on his big shoulders. Jason can both bat and bowl, apart from a cool head on his shoulders, which makes him an indispensable tool for the West Indies in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

2. Andre Russell

Andre Russell is another all-rounder in the West Indies team who can instill fear in the hearts of the opponents. And especially after his brutal display of hitting in the recently concluded Indian Premier League- IPL 2019, teams will be wary of this dangerous players. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is a great chance for Russell to prove himself in the 50 overs format, as he is already regarded a T20 specialist. Russell is the 'X' factor in this West Indian side.

3. Shai Hope

The 25-year-old Shai Hope is one of the most promising batsmen in this format of the game. Hope, who made his ODI debut in 2016, averages more than 50 in the One-day Internationals, which is testament to his batting abilities. The right handed batsman will play a key role in West Indian batting line-up.

4. Shimron Hetmyer

The 22-year-old Shimron Hetmyer has shown in his short career that he is capable of hitting the ball far and wide. Besides, the left-handed batsman provides the strength needed at the top order for West Indies. Hetmyer can also play spin well, something that will come handy against teams like India and Australia.

5. Sheldon Cottrell

Though West Indies has pacers like Jason Holder, Kemar Roach, Oshan Thomas, all eyes will be on the "Soldier Salute" guy Sheldon Cottrell. The West Indian pacer can extract pace and bounce from the most unlikeliest of pitches. The left-arm-fast bowler will be vital for West Indies in their attempt to win the 50 overs Cricket World Cup after 40 years.

West Indies will open their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign against Pakistan on June 02 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. However, ahead of the tournament, West Indies were scheduled to play two warm-up matches, out of which the one against South Africa was washed away by rains. In the last edition of the World Cup, West Indies failed to make much of an impact. However this time around, the team will surely aim higher and try to lift the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy to end the 40-year wait of a nation.
