As the long-running Lok Sabha elections await its outcome, another set of elections is about to hit the country in some months’ time. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Tuesday announced that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections will be held on October 22, 2019. BCCI Election 2019: Polls for CoA Members to Take Place on October 22.

It was long speculated that the Supreme Court appointed CoA might finally announce the dates for the BCCI elections at its Delhi meeting on May 21. The democratically elected central body will govern the game. The powers given to CoA by the apex court will, therefore, be transferred to the elected BCCI representatives.

The election announcement dates come after the court-appointed amicus PS Narashima had submitted his report, which mentioned that various state associations are ready to comply with the Lodha reforms. Compliance of the Lodha reforms was a pre-condition given to the state associations for the elections.

Narshima had also clarified earlier that the combined tenure for any office-bearer in both the state associations and the central body will be eighteen years.

"The total number of years in BCCI is 9 years and in State association is also 9 years. So the total is 18 years. The last judgement made an observation which seemed to have created confusion as to whether it is 9 or 18," he had said.

With the BCCI election date out of the way, the CoA is expected to now go ahead and declare the dates for the state elections. The CoA is also expected to reveal the further progress of the court-appointed bodies.
