Windies import in Sylhet Sixers team Nicholas Pooran showed why he is amongst the dangerous T20 batsmen in the world. The left-hander batsman was at his best during the Bangladesh Premier League 2019 (BPL 2019) match against Dhaka Dynamites. Pooran scored 72 off just 47 balls as he smashed Dynamites’ bowlers all over the park. However, his heroics were not enough to help Sylhet Sixers chase a target of 174. For the uninitiated, Pooran was snapped by Kings XI Punjab at the IPL 2019 auction for INR 4.2 Crore. Pooran came to bat in at number six with his side in trouble at 29 for four inside first five overs. The 23-year-old batsman did not hold back and started on an aggressive note. He kept losing partners but that did not bog him down.
Pooran went on to score 72 as he single-handedly toyed the Dynamites attack. During his knock, Pooran smashed nine sixes and a four. He was eventually dismissed in the 18th over, thus ending Sylhet Sixers hopes of registering an impossible win. The David Warner-led side was set 174 to win, but batsmen failed to put up a good show. Barring Pooran no other batsman managed to cross even the 20-run mark. Sixers were eventually restricted to 141/9 in their allowed 20 overs. For Dynamites, Taskin Ahmed scalped three wickets while Sohail Tanvir, Al-Amin Hossain, Alok Kapali and Afif Hossain chipped in with a wicket each. Sylhet Sixers following the defeat are placed sixth on the BPL 2019 points table while Dhaka Dynamites continue to dominate the team standings. The Shakib Al Hasan-led are thus far unbeaten in BPL 2019 with four consecutive wins in their kitty.
