Just a day after Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus instructed all concerned agencies to ensure necessary precautions are taken by December to let the nation have a peaceful and orderly general election in 2026, BPL Chairman Mahbub Anam hinted that the franchise-based cricket league may be shifted from the usual January window for the upcoming season. The announcement from Mahbub Anam came after an emergency meeting of the board of directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday, July 10. Nitish Kumar Reddy Opens Up After Brilliant Bowling Performance on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2025, Says Knew I Had To Improve My Bowling After Australia Tour’.

Mahbub Anam has conveyed that the BPL authorities are waiting for the decision from the government about the elections, to decide on which slot they would have the Bangladesh Premier League 2026. BPL is usually hosted during January-February. But since the Bangladesh general elections are speculated to be held in early 2026, Mahbub Anam hinted that BPL 2026 might be hosted before December 2025, or in May 2026. Mahbub Anam said, "BPL slot may change due to the elections. BPL [could be] before December, or another slot is being planned. We will take the next steps depending on the government's decision, and in this regard, May [window] is another option" (as reported by Cricbuzz). Asia Cup 2025 in Doubt After India and Sri Lanka Skip Asian Cricket Council Meeting in Dhaka.

Mahbub Anam also shared further updates on BPL 2026 proceedings. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already issued an Expression of Interest (EOI), and Mahbub Anam has stated that they are aiming to appoint a sports marketing consultancy firm to manage the tournament. Anam also added that BCB would prefer an experienced firm to organize the T20 league. He said, "Agency with experience of organising international T20 leagues and skilled officials will be appointed. In the past, responsibility was given to inexperienced companies, which harmed BCB, so experienced ones will be prioritised". Mahbub Anam also stated that, "BPL needs to set up its own standard." Anam added that the aim is to increase the bran value of Bangladesh Premier League.
