In the match, the hosts crashed out at 67 in the first innings in reply to Australia’s 179. While chasing 359 runs for victory in the 2nd innings, England reached the target with just one wicket remaining. At one point, England were reeling at 286-9 and needed 73 more runs to win.
However, no.11 batsman Jack Leach kept his wicket as Ben Stokes took his team to victory in the end. This was England’s highest-ever chase in the fourth innings of a Test match. England also levelled the five-match Ashes 2019 Test series 1-1 post the brilliant victory. The 2nd Test was drawn while the first Test was won by Australia by 251 runs. The fourth Test will be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester and start from September.
