Kolkata Knight Riders Playoffs Scenario After Win Against GT in IPL 2026 Match

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have managed to keep their chances of reaching the IPL 2026 playoffs alive after securing a vital 29-run victory over the league-contending Gujarat Titans (GT) at Eden Gardens. The Path to 15 Points

With this victory, KKR have moved to 11 points from 12 matches. To have any chance of qualifying for the top four, the Knight Riders must win their final two league fixtures against the Mumbai Indians (May 20) and Delhi Capitals (May 24). Winning both would take them to a maximum of 15 points.

Since Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans are already at 16 points, KKR are effectively competing for the third or fourth qualification spots. Their primary rivals for these positions are Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The Dependency on Other Results

Reaching 15 points is only the first step; KKR’s fate is no longer entirely in their own hands. For Ajinkya Rahane’s side to progress, at least two of the following scenarios must occur:

• Sunrisers Hyderabad (14 points): Must lose their remaining two matches (vs CSK and RCB) to stay at 14.

• Punjab Kings (13 points): Must lose at least one of their remaining fixtures (vs RCB or LSG).

• Rajasthan Royals (12 points): Must lose at least two of their remaining three fixtures (vs DC, LSG, or MI).

The Net Run-Rate Factor

Following the 29-run win, KKR's Net Run-Rate (NRR) saw a slight improvement but remains in the negative (approximately (-0.040). This remains a significant hurdle, as most of their direct rivals, such as Punjab Kings (+0.355) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (+0.331), possess superior NRR figures. KKR will likely need to win their final two games by considerable margins to secure a tie-breaker advantage.
