After a fantastic display by the Indian batsmen during India vs West Indies 2nd ODI, pacer Mohammed Shami joined the party of crashing records and became the highest ODI wicket-taker in 2019. The speedster took his 39th ODI scalp of the year and went past kiwi bowler Trent Boult. Shami went to the milestone by taking his first wicket of the match, dismissing Nicholas Pooran in the 30th over of the match. This is, however, not the only year when the Indian pacer has topped the wicket-taking charts in ODIs. In 2014, Shami claimed 38 wickets in the year and was the joint highest wicket-taker alongside Sri Lanka’s Ajanta Mendis who also took as many wickets. Speaking of the encounter. India posted a mammoth score of 387 runs in the first innings and are firmly placed on the driver’s seat. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored centuries while Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant played fantastic cameos. Men in Blue were trailing the three-match tie 1-0 and are looking all set to level the series. However, the likes of Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran are still left to bat. So, the Indian bowlers certainly can’t afford to be complacent
