New Zealand defeated Pakistan by four runs in the first Test at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Chasing 176, Pakistan resumed day four’s play on 37 for none. However, the hosts were eventually bundled out for 171 with debutant spinner Ajaz Patel scalping a five-wicket haul. Pakistan looked on course to win the match, but a batting collapse meant that they now concede a 0-1 lead in the three match Test series. PAK vs NZ 1st Test Full Scorecard.

New Zealand began the day on a promising note by removing three wickets quickly. Patel first removed Imam-ul-Haq and then Ish Sodhi accounted for Mohammad Hafeez and Haris Sohail. Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq then helped Pakistan rebuild the innings with a partnership of 82 runs for the fourth wicket.

Fast bowler Neil Wagner provided Kiwis with a breakthrough when he removed Shafiq. After Shafiq’s wickets, Pakistan then lost half the side as Babar Azam was run out. Sarfraz Ahmed, Bilal Asif, Yasir Shah, and Hassan Ali fell in space of just ten runs as New Zealand took control of the game. Azhar and Mohammad Abbas tried hard to take Pakistan to the target. However, Patel trapped Azhar in front of the wickets to clinch the match for his side.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand were bowled out for 153 runs in their first innings. Pakistan then took a lead of 74 runs after scoring 227. New Zealand responded with 249 in their second innings and set Pakistan a target of 176 runs. The two sides will now meet in Dubai for the second Test, string November 24.
