Prithvi Shaw made a stunning comeback into the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 after he was banned for about eight months due to doping violation. He had mistakenly taken a cough syrup which had terbutaline in it. His ban got over on November 16, 2019, and he played against Assam and made 63 runs from 39 deliveries. However, the BCCI instead of crediting Shaw for the runs, they wrote Akhil Hirwadkar’s name on their website. The goof-up happened because the match officials were unaware that Shaw was to play the game. Prithvi Shaw Assures Fans He Will Return With His Better Version After Serving Suspension.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the blunder happened due to multiple reasons. One of the major reasons was that the official scorers hadn’t told the BCCI’s website handling company. The report states that the MCA officials had spoken to the match referee but it was too late to make changes on the website. “This was a botch-up by the scorers. They had to communicate to the Sports Mechanics which manages the software. This exercise was not undertaken prior to the match and hence Shaw’s name was missing,” stated a technician on the basis of anonymity.

Talking about Shaw, he slammed seven fours and a couple of sixes. Shaw celebrated his half-century by replicating the gesture by Virat Kohli. The batsman was trolled for the same and the netizens said that he was being overconfident with his game. Mumbai went on to win the game by 83 runs.
